The Amazing Civil Service Adventure Tour!

Croydon is a town of hidden history and surprising facts. Not the least of them (although, we admit, probably not the most surprising of them either) is that the town is South London’s very own Whitehall.

In the 1960’s Croydon went through an unprecedented office boom and an army of new occupiers arrived. Some of these were government departments looking for space outside a crowded central London property market. Its competitive rents and excellent links to central London made it a favoured location for such departments; most famously, the UK Border Agency. To this day, it is one of the largest concentrations of central government employers in the UK.

From the delights of the Pension Protection Fund to the thrill of the Land Registry this walk will take you on an exploration of this mundane yet fascinating mini-world. If your idea of a fun afternoon is a quirky walk around the workplaces and regular haunts of mid-level civil servants, this tour is definitely for you.
